China's mandatory standard for daylighting and lighting in primary and secondary school classrooms, GB 7793-2025, takes effect on November 1, 2026, replacing the 2010 edition. The revised standard introduces requirements covering daylight uniformity and retinal blue-light hazard limits, while prohibiting the use of bare light sources for classroom lighting.
Organized for revision by the National Disease Control and Prevention Administration, the standard also specifies more detailed requirements for local lighting of writing boards and luminaire installation height.

The new provisions make compliance a question of the overall classroom lighting arrangement as well as the choice of individual luminaires. Daylight uniformity, writing-board lighting and installation height bring different parts of the classroom environment into consideration.
For schools assessing existing classrooms, the changes may affect both lighting upgrades and decisions about how fixtures are installed. For LED classroom lighting suppliers, they may require product and installation offerings to be assessed against the revised requirements.
The extent of upgrades and their effect on demand for compliant lighting products will depend on how existing classrooms and available products measure up to the new standard.
